The Blue Hole is a large
submarine sinkhole that is 412 feet deep and 1,000 feet wide. It is located
forty-three (43) miles from the mainland. The crystal-clear water allows you to
see stalactites and stalagmites in this ancient cavern.
Divers are screened for eligibility. Participation is left to the discretion of the Tour Operator.
The Blue Hole is in the
Lighthouse Reef Atoll, two and a half hours by boat from Ambergris Caye.
The trip leaves at 5:30 am
(They have coffee 😊) and returns about 5:30pm.
You’ll be served a continental style breakfast on board and a picnic lunch on
Halfmoon Caye.
Regardless of lower
advertised prices, after taxes, park fees and equipment rentals you'll spend
over 300.usd for the trip.
The Blue Hole is an advanced
130foot/40 meters dive and done as the first of three dives on the Blue
Hole trip. The second dive is Halfmoon Caye Wall and third dive The
Aquarium.
A warm up dive before doing the Blue Hole trip is highly recommended for everyone
regardless of their certification level.
I get daily emails from divers who want to schedule this trip as
the first dive of their vacation. They’re excited about diving in Belize
and the Blue Hole. They don't think about being 130 feet down in a cavern
wearing equipment they are unfamiliar with on the first dive of their vacation.
Dive operators are screening divers wanting to sign up for the trip and you may
be refused if you can't document experience and recent experience.
The new government regulations
on diving the Blue Hole are designed to prevent divers visiting that are not
prepared.
What we require is
that divers do a dive on our Barrier Reef allowing them to refresh their
skills and check out equipment before the advanced Blue Hole dive.
Our daily morning trip on the
Barrier Reef departs at 9:am and returns at 12:30ish. Divers need to be
at the dive shop at 8:00 in order to prepare for that 9 am departure.
The Barrier Reef in the front of Ambergris Caye is a world class diving site, 10-15 minutes from our dock
